  1. Review titled Amazing care at Gynaecology Unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Georgia foy - Posted on 24 April 2024

Absolutely overwhelmed with the care and amazing support the staff at this hospital provide. They have saved my life twice because of the quick action taken by the staff. Since saving my life when my son was born, I have recently attended again with a very rare case that I later found out even the senior staff have never seen before, however, the staff here did everything possible to find the issue and took action immediately without sending me home. If I was sent home I might not be here today, I cannot take the staff enough for what they do and how I have been treated. A particular amazing doctor opened a 2nd theatre to ensure I had the surgery I needed immediately and successfully operated. I am very grateful for you all and would hope this review is seen by the lovely people who have looked after me throughout my time there!

  3. Review titled Good experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was sent down to a and e by my gpand after waiting in a Very busy department, I was seen, had bloods taken and admitted. Everything was explained to me and I knew I was in safe hands. I spent the 1st night on a6 before being transferred to f7:This ward was always busy but the start we courteous and always found time to speak to us. The food was good and the medication during the day I had on time, my only concern was the time I was getting my last medication before bed. Sometimes it was nearly midnight before I got my meds and then was woken up at 6am to take my medicine observations and blood. The last night before I came home I was transferred to f9which I did not mind as I knew I was going to be discharged home. The ward was okay, my only grumble about that ward was what the food was served on. All week I had meals brought on proper plates, but not f9 it was served on disposable plates and the portion sizes were not enough even to feed a child. Breakfast there was no orange juice, you could not get porridge and the toast was nearly burnt and cold by the time I was given it and all before 7:30am. Lunch all the puddings they served was yoghurts. If they are going to have patients come from other wards, where they have received proper meals, isn’t it right that f9 should also dish up to the same standards of other wards. That is my only grumble or otherwise it was a good all round experience where I was felt fo feel at ease.

Dear patient, Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to learn that your experience at Wythenshawe Hospital in April 2024 was not as positive as we would hope. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as it provides an opportunity for the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible. In response to your comment around nighttime medication delays on Ward F7, this has been shared with the ward nursing teams and the importance of timely medication rounds will be reiterated in the next Ward F7 meeting. With regards to your comments regarding the quality and quantity of food whilst on Ward F9, we are currently in the process of reviewing the meals services which are provided on that ward. F9 has been a day case ward and therefore regrettably has a limited offer for mealtimes. We are currently working alongside Sodexo, the external company who supply our hospital food, to supply a hot meal provision for patients admitted to F9. It is difficult to respond to all posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore, if you would like to discuss your experience with us in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk quoting reference number PO24/0008, they will do their best to address your concerns. 4. Review titled Can't thank the staff at Wythenshawe Hospital enough!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janine Richardson Smith - Posted on 18 July 2024

In April I experienced a sudden Appendicitis. From the minute I arrived in the emergency department I can only praise the staff I came into contact with from all the departments I passed through. I ended up being an in patient for 5 days due to my appendix rupturing, the staff on the ward were fantastic and looked after me extremely well including helping source basic toiletries as when I arrived at A&E I did not expect to be an in patient!. I have previously had planned surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital and had an equally positive experience. My extreme thanks.

  5. Review titled Lovely staff , dreadful admissions lounge

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 April 2024

Attended with partner for surgical procedure . Staff were kind and thoughtful but admissions lounge is awful. Patients had to sit on hard extremely uncomfortable chairs for over 7 hrs resulting in back pain and aching bones before surgery . Tv was broken too . Had a more comfortable wait on train station platform !

Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope during your stay on the Surgical Admissions Lounge at Wythenshawe Hospital. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as it provides an opportunity for the service to make changes, and improvements wherever possible. In reviewing this feedback, we have decided to discard the TV which is only used to listen to the radio only, and instead will replace this with a radio. With regards to the chairs within the Surgical Admissions Lounge, there are three waiting rooms available to patients, 1x Male, 1x Female, and 1x Patient & Relative Waiting Room. The chairs in the patient and relative waiting room were purchased specifically to allow as many chairs in the room as possible, this is to allow for relatives to stay. Sadly, this means they are not quite as comfortable as the others available in the single sex waiting areas. Your concerns have also been raised directly with the staff within the Surgical Admissions Lounge for their awareness and consideration for other patients. It is difficult to respond to all posts in full as they sometimes lack some detailed information, therefore, if you would like to discuss your experience with us in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@mft.nhs.uk quoting reference number PO24/00069, they will do their best to address your concerns. 7. Review titled Good Experience At Appointment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 March 2024

I was anxious and worried about attending Wythenshawe Hospital as a patient from a different area who is also on the autism spectrum. I had to travel using a taxi to reach my appointment as I cannot use public transport due to my disabilities, which include chronic pain, fatigue and my autism. To make any journey especially one involving multiple changes on unfamiliar territory would cause me significant harm. My appointment went well, the hospital was very clean and easy to get around with very clean signage on where to go, the colorful routes are helpful when you have poor eyesight like me and the benches in the corridors very useful when you need to sit and rest. All the staff I met with within the departments I visited, General Surgery, and Phlebotomy were very helpful and friendly, a real credit to the NHS, and I have confidence my future treatment will be just as good. My only issue was trying to navigate the cashiers prior to my appointment, and to get them to understand why I needed to travel by a taxi and claim back my travel costs as I am in receipt of Income-Related ESA. The Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme the NHS have is there to help people attend appointments on a low income. When I spoke to them on the phone, they were very dismissive and adamant they could only pay costs via public transport which was a maximum of £10 if I chose to travel my taxi, as if I had a choice in the matter, my return journey was £48. I fully knew I could claim back taxi costs given my disabilities, but I needed the hospital to first approve the cost of a taxi, which seemed impossible to get from them, having spoken to the cashiers, and a secretary within the department I was visiting. I have now familiarised myself with the NHS Travel Scheme Instructions and Guidance for NHS Organisations, published by the government (2010) which clearly indicates I can request my taxi costs are covered based on the guidelines called, The ‘Reasonable’ Test, the cashiers never mentioned this to me. There is also the fact a hospital has a duty of care to its patients, and that reasonable adjustments should be made as per The Equality Act, it seems staff really need to be more aware of this information, rather than assuming potential visitors are not going to go away and do further research themselves, thankfully my autistic brain likes a challenge.

  8. Review titled Excellent caring service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Wayne - Posted on 18 March 2024

Had to attend the A&E department at Wythenshawe Hospital as I was having issues with my heart, the quality of care I received was first class and the speed of care was superb, I was seen by the triage nurse within 10 minutes, she was very nice and caring and told me I needed an urgent ECG which was done almost immediately, my heart rate was very high 160 and I had atrial fibrillation, I was immediately moved to the resuscitation room where I was treated with exceptional care, I really cannot thank the staff enough for looking after me, all of the staff were so professional and caring, I couldn’t have asked for more, all the nurses should all receive substantial pay rises and it’s essential that we keep the NHS, thank you all so much

  9. Review titled Unbelievable care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jon Cohen - Posted on 10 March 2024

I went to a&e which was followed by a scan and appendectomy. From a&e to pre-op diagnosis, to theatre and Ward a6 I received incredible care! The nurses, doctors and surgeons were all magnificent with me and made a stressful process so much better. I am so impressed by all the staff I met and the way I was treated. I could not have asked for more! It is a lot to go through, genuinely not knowing why I was in pain and waiting to be seen. a&e was so busy but the staff there were first class! They looked after me and made sure I was aware of what was going on and what would happen. The doctors I met before the operation were kind and knowledgeable. They made me feel at ease and aware of the process and timeline. On Ward a6 I met some fantastic people. They cared for me so well I was eventually discharged less than 24 hours after my operation. The staff that cared for me in my recent stay were an absolute credit to the hospital. I am hugely thankful for all they did for me!

I can not highly speak of my experience we had taking our little boy in on his birthday due to a fractured bone x2 - the nurses were outstanding , thoughtful and caring towards my boy, making his trip extra special and even singing happy birthday to him. I can not believe how people leave the waiting room and expecting nurses/cleaners to clean up after them, nurses being as busy as they are and then also cleaning I think is disgraceful, as a human being clean up after yourself. We were treated with the best care , respect throughout our visit! My little boy was so happy even though it wasn’t the best place to be on his birthday. Thank you
