  1. Review titled A better life in abstinence

    by Brien74 - Posted on 13 December 2023

I first went to C.G.L Birmingham 2020 I was unwell and needed help, I 'd been addicted to class A drugs for 21 years and I needed to turn my life around and address my addiction. I booked a appointment to see a drugs worker. I was called in 2 weeks later and put on a methadone script. While in treatment C.G.L offered me Rehabilitation, I accepted and was asked if I could attend pre-detox groups, I agreed I would do anything to get well. I was determined to sort my life out and to live a better life out of addiction. I was offerer B.A.C O Connor in Burton- on-Trent I was called by the treatment centre for a phone interview and was accepted 2 months later at the end of August 2023. I arrived at B.A.C I was there for 12 weeks intensive therapy all the time I was there I was getting and was been supported by C.G.L Birmingham. My therapy came to a end at the beginning of December 2023. I left rehab a better person and able to live a better life free of addiction, I owe a lot to C.G.l Birmingham, no doubt they saved my life. Thanks to C.G.L I now have a understanding of my addiction and with that understanding I can live a better life in abstinence

Dear Brien74 Thank you for reaching out to us to share your experiences. My name is Lydia and I’m responsible for listening and responding to people’s feedback. It takes a lot of courage and motivation to ask for help with an addiction, and I’m really glad that you made that decision to get in touch with us. It sounds like you’ve had a really open and positive attitude to accepting the advice and support that was available to you, first through your willingness to accept methadone prescribing and then through the opportunity of residential rehabilitation. Attending pre-detox groups is a really important step and it’s great to know you were happy to engage in these to help you understand what you were likely to experience as you went through detox in a residential setting. It’s amazing to hear that you had such intensive support at BAC O’Connor and that you left there addiction free and feeling like a better person. It sounds like their support really helped you to understand your addiction and the changes you would need to make in order to maintain your recovery. It was also really nice to read that our service continued to support you during your stay at BAC O’Connor and can imagine that it must have felt really reassuring to know our workers were thinking of you and how you were getting on, whilst you committed yourself to BAC O’Connor support. We have shared your feedback with the Managers who supervise our Residential Detox and Rehab Workers, so that your kind words can be read by those who supported you. We have also sent your feedback to BAC O’Connor so that they can hear about the really positive impact they have had on your life too. Your feedback was appreciated by everyone. I hope you feel really proud of everything you achieved through your hard work and determination and that you continue to go from strength to strength in your recovery. Thanks again for getting in touch, and I wish you all the very best for the future. Take care Lydia

  2. Review titled Staff mean while but total lack of support

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 September 2023

I know l services are stretched but I am doing everything I possibly can to become free of a drug addiction. I have been put on replacement medication which is causing extreme side effects. I was supposed to have ab appointment every week as we have just started. I have been trying to get hold of cgl for two weeks now. Seven messages left on their answerphone, no response whatsoever. My friend and my support workers has also tried contacting them to no avail. I am scared and frightened, on a drug that prevents me from functioning and I can't even get a single response from cgl. They have put me on this drug and then completely stopped engaging with me. I feel very frightened alone and just don't know what to do anymore.

  3. Review titled I went once - initiation

    by Julie C - Posted on 22 December 2023

I totally agreed with the staff members meetings’ structure and think that they are probably great at their job. However, an unnecessary, glib comment they made prevented me from ever interacting with the service again.

  5. Review titled I hope other people choose KiKit as well.

by Sorena - Posted on 18 October 2023

Well if I want to be honest with you it was trouble, I didn't have anyone to ask for help, I didn't know any places or any websites to go to, but after I met you in KiKit all doors suddenly started opening for me. You gave me hope, Ideas, websites and places that could help me in this hard journey I had to face. Now I'm more than fine, finally I can sit home thinking about what I'm going to do next instead of thinking what to smoke next. I am very thank full that you helped me, I hope in future you get the opportunity to help lots of people like me because there is even worse than canabis. KiKit has a lot of ideas to say no to drugs, lots of technics and the most important think HOPE. I only needed some hope from a friend who says YOU CAN DO IT but I didn't have one before I met KiKit but now look at me, thanks to KiKit. The techniques were amazing the way you talked with me was amazing and I am more than happy now that I chose KiKit for my recovery journey and I hope other people choose KiKit as well. Kind regards

  6. Review titled Methadone treatment after being in hospital

    by hotelej93 - Posted on 25 August 2023

Had a operation and got a infection so had to go to Hull royal A&E. I tell my drug worker who then cancels my 7 day pick up batched scripts, I was only on 2nd day in too. Constantly on supervised, can never get more then a week pick up. I gave negative tests for 7 yeas, an A&E visit is enough to be put on supervised which is mind boggling to me, specially if you've had a operation or got a infection. I had supervised consumption while in hospital and then on release I had to walk to Renew in the rain in a t shirt and shorts to get a script from Renew which was supervised consumption 6 days a week after I've just got out of hospital and wait on 7 day pick ups.So when I really needed help they kicked me down even more. I could of got my 7 day pick up and went home to rest like everyone else does after a operation but instead I had to ring renew for a script and do a 5 mile walk to the chemist 6 days a week for supervised consumption.Talk about kick a man when his down, when I challenge my worker and subscriber I felt patronised and said I need mental health services. They have told my Dr that I am a ex IV user and ex alcoholic and Ive never been either, I've complained and it has not been fixed.I don't know what I did so wrong to get put back on supervised, I've never gave a positive test or missed pick ups, they say it is the rules but a week before they let me have my 7 day pick up through my operation. Its mind boggling to think that you get penalised for trying to get help. Staff and managers cant give me an answer when I ask why I am back on supervised. They just said they dunno.I feel like every few months they will build me up and I get kicked back down by their so called rules but it always at the worst times like xmas, birthdays, operations like they go out there way to make it harder for you over festive periods.I got accused of missing appointments and put on supervised when my actual key worker didnt even turn up to work that day. The supervised consumption is 6 days a week to so you have no life, I dont know who makes these rules up but they need to come give it a try if its so easy, its breaking me and making my life not worth living as all I do is keep people in a job and I fell that they couldn't give a damn about my health yet are paid to care about it, 7 years now Ive had a nightmare with methadone treatment, I came into treatment through subutex and they banned them and got me hooked on methadone.Through covid and xmas the Dr changed my pick up day to a Sunday when I pick up on a Thursday, I was out of treatment and had to sit in renew all xmas and then had to do supervised 6 day a week consumption for 6 months, mind boggling it is.I cant recommend this service.

I'm truly sorry to hear about the challenges you've been facing with us. It sounds like you've gone through a frustrating and difficult experience and it's understandable that the sudden changes and lack of clear communication from your recovery worker have caused you significant stress and feelings of being let down. The situation you've described, where you were unexpectedly put back on supervised consumption and faced difficulties in accessing your medication, is indeed disheartening. It's unfortunate that you've had to deal with these issues. It's evident that you've shown a commitment to your treatment and recovery, and it's disappointing to hear that you've not received the understanding and consideration you deserve. Your feedback about the service's impact on your mental health and well-being is crucial, and I'll be forwarding your feedback into a formal complaint, but to do so I will need you to contact me with your name so we can appropriately review your case notes to see where the issues have been to proceed with your complaint. It's important for us to truly understand the challenges those who use our service face and to make adjustments to better support their recovery journeys. Please email me directly with your name and DOB on matthew.butler@cgl.org.uk and I'll pass on this information to the management team to investigate.

  9. Review titled CGL 2 week alcohol detox

    by Simon23 - Posted on 13 June 2023

If you’re considering doing a CGL detox then please read this: I was drinking way, way too much on a daily basis for a long time and my doctor suggested I get in touch with CGL. I honestly didn’t think I needed this type of help but how wrong was I! I started with a few group sessions which are really good, it’s great to get your secrets out in the open to a bunch of strangers who are exactly the same as you are. I was offered a 2 week alcohol detox and I just went for it. The first day was a bit daunting and possibly embarrassing for us all but it really didn’t take long for us to settle down and get to know each other with the help of the staff… the lessons we were given and the tools we walked away with were all very useful, but what I really liked in particular was the check in and check out stages every day with the freedom to just talk throughout the day, together, as new friends. We all learned from each other, all totally different people in many ways but linked by the obvious which gave us all a very tight bond. I also want emphasise how amazing the staff were to us all on this detox. We all felt like a team together with the staff, we laughed and cried and they were all absolutely top class, so understanding, knowledgeable and genuinely caring. We are all still in contact and will continue to help each other in any way that we can as we’ve been encouraged to do. I wanted to post this on the website to let everybody know that there really is top quality help out there at CGL. Thanks to everyone that was involved, including the people behind the scenes that we only met briefly. P.S. Haven't had a drink for 4 weeks now and don’t even want one!

    Review titled Change Grow Live

    Replied on 21 June 2023

Dear Simon23 Thank you very much for getting in touch with us about your experience. I’m Kerry and I’m the Quality and Governance Manager at Change Grow Live Birmingham. As I read your story, I felt it was very insightful. We come across a lot of people who underestimate the extent of their drinking, and carry on, unaware of the long-term impacts that their alcohol use will have on their physical health and their lives in general. I’m glad you managed to find our support, and I hope other people who may be underestimating their alcohol use, will reflect on your words and that they will prompt them to reach out for advice and support too. I can understand why that first day would have felt a bit daunting and embarrassing, as these are the types of feelings we know are commonly felt amongst the people who access our services. However, we believe that alcohol dependency doesn’t discriminate. It can happen to anybody, and we feel people should feel proud of the strength and bravery it takes to first admit they need help, and then commit to making changes. Your story highlights how important it is for people to be able to meet peers in similar situations, so they don’t feel alone and have an opportunity to share their experiences with those who will be able to relate and understand. I’m really glad that our community detox support gave you an opportunity to do this, as well as learn about the tools required to remain in recovery and maintain abstinence. Your feedback about our staff members is wonderful. I’m really happy that they supported you so well during your detox, and I will make sure that your kind words are shared amongst the team that supported you. I’m sure they will really appreciate the time you have taken out of your day to share how you felt about the impact they had on your experience. It’s amazing to learn that 4 weeks in, you are still abstinent and not feeling tempted to drink again. I hope you feel proud of everything you have achieved, and that you keep drawing on all of the learning you experienced over the two-week detox, from both our staff and the peers you engaged with, and add many more weeks, months and years onto this time. Thank you again for leaving us your kind feedback, and I wish you all the very best for the future. Best wishes, Kerry

  10. Review titled Quitting smoking

    by Adam92 - Posted on 18 May 2023

I was at the hospital with my wife to find out the gender of our baby and I was approached after our consultation whether or not either of us smoked (which I do) and asked if I would like help to quit. With a baby on the way and it’s something I’ve been meaning to do I thought why not now and went ahead with the programme. After speaking with the representatives I left them with my details and I was contacted a few days later to find out more about me and why I was smoking, to be fair I know it’s something I needed to do and it held me accountable with regular check ins and an method that works best for me to do so. Been smoke free for a while now and intend to keep it that way, for me it was being held accountable to not to smoke partially because I’m a terrible liar and I had to check in got me where I needed to be.
