    Had a really good experience. Had cataract removed, surgeon was excellent and all other staff were spot on , very helpful and explained the surgery, kept me calm.

    Appointments were difficult to arrange and often then mentioned two or three times in succession. I could not easily make an appointment at the centre. Communication at treatment was bad. I have no idea about my glaucoma and options A referral to the eye hospital having put me on eye drops would take 35 weeks The eyedrops have made my vision worse but no responsibility taken by CHEC to follow up in the waiting period for the hospital to see me

    Had cataract surgery today. Was really nervous but everyone made me feel comfortable and were reassuring. Surgery was fast and I was kept advised what was happening at each stage which was great . Cannot recommend CHEC highly enough

    I had to take my mother for a check at the CHEC in Westbourne. Mum is in a wheelchair, elderly and very frail. I checked when booking that it was wheelchair friendly and was told that they believed it was as there was nothing on their notes to the contrary. On arrival it proved to be an extremely difficult entrance with a narrow angled doorway and a very high step to get in and a small waiting room with very little room for the chair. There was no receptionist. Once called in for the consultation, the door was very heavy, the consultant didn’t seem inclined to help at all. Mum was required to transfer from the wheelchair to a chair in a very tight space while I was trying to help and hold the door open. I couldn’t see why transfer was necessary as the machine was fully adjustable. She had a few tests and then drops and we had to do the whole thing in reverse. 30 minutes later we did it all again to have further checks once the drops had worked. Mum was then told she had cataracts on both eyes and could have an op but it would be difficult because of her breathing and frailty. So she said she wouldn’t bother. We went home feeling like we had wasted our time and with Mum feeling very depressed at the thought of gradually going blind. I am going to follow up as I really feel she should have the operation. Surely this facility is mostly frequented by older patients and should be suitable for those with limited mobility. On a positive note, the appointments ran to time.

Regarding the facilities, we are disappointed to hear that you found these lacking. Whilst Westbourne is one of our smaller sites, we always aim to utilise the space to ensure patients remain comfortable on attendance. We will certainly take your feedback on board. We are however pleased to hear the appointments ran on time, and would welcome your mother back for a further appointment to discuss her options should she wish to do so.     Can not recommend this place enough. The speed of getting the assessment and the the surgery was 3 weeks from start to finish. Amazing staff that made you feel at ease as soon as you walked in

    From my first visit through to the cataract operation I found the service not only efficient but extremely quick. I have already told people what a speedy and efficient facility CHEC is. I am looking forward to CHEC carrying out the second cataract operation, which is painless. The first operation has improved the sight in my left considerably. I will continue recommend CHEC to friends and colleagues.
