I received a letter asking me to call to arrange an appointment. I have called the given number every day for a week at different times of day and constantly receive the message that there is no one available to take my call

The place, on this first showing at least, appears to run like a well lubricated machine in all its constituent parts. I was seen within three minutes of arriving and almost as quickly via two subsequent consultations within the overall appointment timeframe. A slight, a v e r y slight shadow on an otherwise bright scenario was that whilst I found one medical staffer warm, patient and readily accommodating of my many concerns, the other colleague came across as equally proficient but a tad cold though I hasten to add that my remark in this latter instance is an observation, not a complaint. We are all different personalites after all. What most impressed me was the swiftness with which one was given the initial consultative appointment, equally so for the follow-up operation itself, both within a week of referal; these twin factors helped reduced my anxiety about the whole caboodle as it were. Many a retail sales outfit could learn from CHEC how to run their business given the tendancy in this sphere, in my experience, to all too often be mediocre when it comes to customer service. Dear reader, you can have confidence that the team in New Cross will look after you promptly and efficiently.

Referral was very fast and was able to book appointments quickly. However, wasn’t given all of the relevant information about recovery from cataract surgery until now was about to book the surgery. No one told me and the information booklet given at my pre-op appointment did not explain that you are unable to bend over or lift weight above 9kg. I was only told I couldn’t bend or lift when I was about to book the surgery because I happened to ask a relevant question and then I received another information booklet with this information in following my surgery. It would be helpful if all the information leaflets contained the same advice and were given prior to surgery. The receptionist was very helpful and accommodating in answering my questions and booking the surgery in when it was convenient for me though. Staff at the New Cross clinic were generally friendly and helpful too. I booked surgery for my second eye through the central chec centre (as they called me to book in). A week after I’d booked and arranged the time off work (and only a few days before the surgery) the New Cross clinic called to say they don’t do surgery at the time I was booked in and it had to be rebooked. This was quite inconvenient and stressful as had to rearrange the time off with work.

Twice now I have arranged appointments and had them confirmed by getting a letter, then been sent texts asking me to make appointments- which leaves me anxious whether existing appointments are still valid. Today tried to ring and the phone line was engaged or ‘call failed” on mobile or landline so now its nearly 6pm and dont know whether my appointments exist. Tried to rearrange online but think I pressed wrong location ( flustered typing with my eyes) so now need to ring again another day so worried whether I will get through. On holiday abroad next week so got to get through or anxious I Want to come st Albans 10th and 15th May as per your 2 letters before I got texts. Also have arranged lifts for those days at st Albans

Number on letter by address is incorrect Number at footer answers 'the person you called is unavailable' Got number from website and after several options got through to amazing individual. The front end of your service needs attention to make it much more user friendly for elderly pople!!!!
