I recently attended the clinic for a routine cataract operation and could’nt have wished for a better experience. The staff, from receptionist to clinical, were very well mannered, friendly and cheerful. The clinical staff were exceptional. They kept me informed at every stage and made sure I was comfortable throughout. What more could anyone want?

- Reception staff very busy yet very helpful and friendly. - Nurse professional, adept, efficient and friendly. - Doctor indifferent. Impatient with his practice and with my questions. Answered non-emergency phone call mid-consultation when i was asking about procedures. Seemed unknowleageable about specific alternatives and dismissed my researched knowledge.

I received an invitation to book an appointment by text, which I did. I received a confirmation by email. When I attended my appointment they checked that I wasn't driving as they had to dilate my pupils. Apparently this information was sent in the confirmatory letter which arrived three days after my appointment. Fortunately I had been given a lift. My suggestion is that the patient should be told not to drive in the confirmatory text to avoid possible waste of an appointment. Apart from that confusion everything went well at my initial assessment

Trying to check appointment time on line is a no no phone only which is one of those long line of waiting in a long queue not good why o why can't you check on line.

I went for a sigmoidoscopy and the people who did my procedure was excellent from reception right through to leaving the healthcare centre. I would definitely recommend CHEC for anyone requiring the procedure that I had.

I arrived at 0820 for a confirmed 0830 appointment. The consultant arrived at 0845 and was completely uncorked that my appointment was for 0830. By 0900, I had still not been seen as the visiting consultant was unable to find keys to his office or a password to open the practice Laptop. A receptionist for another company who works in the same area told me it was not at all unusual for the doctors to arrive up to an hour late. When I explained to the consultant that I needed to get off to work, he was completely disinterested. I found the whole experience to be unprofessional and unnecessary. Presumably CHEC gets paid by the NHS to provide a service and not to treat its patients with disdain. I tried ringing the CHEC enquiries line twice at 0830 and 0845 only to be told by recorded message that their lines were not open and to call back between 0800 - 1800. What an awful service.

My first visit to CHEC Slough for my appointment was on the 10 of September 2024. My first impression was how clean the place was and how friendly the reception team was . I was told to wait to be seen. These staffs are all professional and helpful and caring. I was accompanied by my son who was also impressed. I was given another appointment for my operation on the 16/9/2024 for 8.45 as usual when we arrived we were welcomed again by the lovely staffs, The operation went smoothly thank God and the CHEC Team Slough My operation would not have gone smoothly without the lovely Receptionists Staff first point of contact ,helpful Nurses , and the brilliant I think she is the Team leader or the Consultant . She is a star , such a lovely lady , kind , helpful and professional. Last but not the least The Operation Team headed by Surgeon and his lovely operation Team . They are such lovely nice Team and Caring and very professional on the operation room Well-done Me and my son who accompanied me would like to say A Big Thank you to You All. God bless you all once again Thank you Once again

Wednesday 4th Sept – Offered Cancellation appointment for 3:20pm 5th Sept for my right eye. I was excited to bring the date forward. This appointment had a very different ‘feel’ to my 1st back in June. I arrived at approx 2:45pm and was almost immediately called in to see a nurse for dilating drops. We were interrupted twice by the theatre nurse who wanted to do pre-opperation checks – I went through immediately. Stronger dilation drops were put in in the operating theatre and the procedure commenced. The procedure felt ‘rough’ compared to the left eye and at one point either I or the surgeons assistant were told that the Iris had been ‘nicked’. I was walked through to the discharge area and discharged. I was given drops, discharge & care information and the emergency care details. The Iris nick was not mentioned. We left and were having coffee in a cafe two doors down by 3:20pm. I called the emergency number the on the 7th Sept as my vision was very ‘milky’ and felt very different to last time – Your responder was very helpful reassured me that no two operations are the same especially as I had two different surgeons. He noted details and advised continuation with drops and to follow up with Stevenage if necessary. Today 11th Sept the eye is still not comfortable, the Right pupil is still dilated and a ’nick’ in the Iris visible. I visited the Stevenage Clinic; saw a clinician and the ‘nick’ in the Iris was confirmed. He recommended I see the surgeon. The clinic arranged this for tomorrow (12th Sept) Everyone is really helpful and dedicated to your care and I’m sure it will be sorted but – I now know that speed is not always of the essence.
